Minneapolis Restaurants

We ate some delicious food on our trip to Minneapolis and I finally got photos together of some of the wonderful restaurant interiors we ate at.
Awesome lighting fixtures, tin ceilings even in the grittiest of diners, and beautiful old wood everywhere. Each place we ate at was incredibly special.

Playing Dress Up

Dress- borrowed from Wanderlust (I just had to try it on!), Necklace- I've had this forever and I absolutely can't remember where it's from
Here's another outfit to share! I would have absolutely kept this dress but it's too big. The print is amazing and it's in awesome condition so I hope it goes to a good home!

Playing Dress Up

skirt- thrifted, blouse- thrifted, necklace- handmade and bought at Crafty Wonderland, beret- crocheted by my lovely friend Nathalie

I love playing dress up. I wear dresses and skirts more often than not and, since I work from home, the boy is often the only other person that sees the outfits I put together. Inspired by some other bloggers (here and here) who share outfits, I decided to start doing this occasionally too.
I've got a couple different outfits to share this week!

Fabric Bows

Here's a new idea I'm working on for Wanderlust. I haven't made much for the shop yet so I'm excited to have a couple of things available there that I came up with.

I tried a few on and I think my favorite is the ponytail holder! Isn't it adorable?

End of Summer

Last nite we went and saw the swifts. Which is a totally classic Portland thing. It was also the autumnal equinox which after the summer we had (or lack of summer) was somewhat depressing. These photos remind me of fun summer activities, frozen yogurt dates and exploring new shops in Seattle.
At least we have Mexico to look forward to this winter. We got our tickets this week and we leave the day after Christmas. So exciting!

Beautiful Floral Prints

I'm going to come out a apologize for the lack of 'real' content this week. I'm exhausted! I do want to share these pretty floral print dresses I stumbled upon today from Miss Selfridge. Jeez. I'm pained that I went the entire summer without knowing about this place! It's like Modcloth but European and I'm pretty sure I like it better! Can't wait to order something from here soon.

Pink Inspiration

We're having a very productive Sunday. Going through piles of laundry, working on our dressing room for the shop and getting the boy ready to start his new job (yay! We're so excited).
I'm staying motivated and inspired by pretty pretty pink images from around the internet. I know we move into 'orange, yellow and brown' territory during Fall, but I'm not quite ready to give up August summer colors and I love pink year round anyway!

Frito Pie!

I look at this photo and I wish I was still eating this delicious frito pie from Chili Pie Palace. This weekend we discovered the luxury of eating at food carts when you have a large group in tow. No long waits at restaurants AND the food is still delicious. The only draw back is you can't get a cocktail or a beer at a food cart (can someone change that PLEASE?).
Anyway, the memory of this pulled pork, pineapple salsa dream is getting me through the day. So much to do!

Wanderlust Weekend

We've been spending so much time getting Wanderlust together so we can take advantage of the little bit of warm weather that's left in the year. This weekend we did a soft launch, just to see how things went and get some ideas for ways to improve (idea number 1: get a table to use as a cash-wrap station!).
Here's a few photos from the day. We've got even more on our brand spanking new flickr page, so check those out too!

Instax!

I've been having so much fun taking instant photos with my Fuji Instax. Here's a few from the wedding a couple weekends ago.
This week I've been busting butt to get our shop ready to open on Saturday. There's still so much left to do but I think I've made some good progress. Of course we also have friends coming into town and the boy's band is playing a show on Friday but I really want to stay focused and make the opening go as smooth as possible.

Crazy Farmer

My dad has been growing tomatoes for the past couple years in his small side yard but this year he really took it up a notch or two. He's growing several different types of tomatoes, peppers and basil! I keep bugging him to give me something that he's grown to try. I grew up in the suburbs and people don't usually grow things there. My mom keeps house plants alive but that's about as much growing as my family did when I was a kid.

So my sister, niece, nephew and mom came to visit this weekend and my sister brought me an awesome gift from my dad! Not only did he send her some of his basil, but he packaged it up in the cutest glass jar AND made a label for it. He calls himself the Crazy Farmer and he lives on Market Street, so it's perfect. I think he could sell these at a farmer's market!

Yesterday the boy and I took the basil and layered it with heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar for the most delicious caprese salad. I think I'm going to make pesto with the rest or use it on a pizza later this week. Thanks Crazy Farmer!

Friday, September 3, 2010

I've been working so hard on this little project and it finally feels like it's coming together. I can share these 'unofficial' cell phone photos here but we've got some great photos of our progress that the boy took which we'll be adding to our website soon.
We were hoping to do a very soft launch tomorrow at a farmer's market here in town but unfortunately our insurance situation isn't figured out yet (through no fault of ours- getting an insurance agent to call you back is apparently the hardest thing in the world) and so it will, in all likely hood, be next weekend.
This project has taught me so much. Not only about owning a business but also about my endurance and patience when it comes to bringing ideas to life. I think that's a big reason I want to do this, not just to own a cute little shop but also to see what I'm capable of. It's meant so much sacrifice and dropping the ball on other projects but my family and friends have been super supportive and a great cheering section which is awesome! I can't wait to officially open and share everything!
