Sasquatch

We just returned from a whirlwind trip to Sasquatch at the Gorge in Eastern Washington. It was quite a drive but we made the most of it. We ate at greasy spoon diners, stopped at fruit stands and yard sales and got to see some wonderful music.

The weather was perfect the whole time, not too hot or cold, and we got to lay out while listening to some bands on the smallest stage.

The bands that played at the medium sized stage were the hardest to get up front for and if you didn't push your way up then the music was inaudible and you couldn't see anything. We had fun watching very drunk teenagers fling themselves about and cause mayhem in the crowd.

They boy took a ton of photos (he had a press pass) and we cracked each other up coming up with tweets for Nadamucho, the music webzine who had him covering the show.

There were a couple CDs I wanted to burn for my step brother, who's in college in Olympia right now. I remember when I was in school just being broke and so thrilled when someone took me to lunch so I figure since I can't make it up to Olympia to do that, I would send something else to make him happy.

I made these CD holders out of cardstock, added japanese masking tape, wrote the band, album and song titles on the back and glued a magazine cutout to the front. I added a gocco'ed postcard of a cow with a note to the top and wrapped it all up with string. I miss mixtapes a ton so I guess this is sort of a 21st century nod to those.

Favorite Things...

Today, I'm very excited about a couple new things.

First, the FX Camera app for the android (which is my phone- and I prefer it million times over an iphone even though I usually love apple products...) Anyway, it was FREE and it has 5 different settings, my favorite of which is toy camera which these photos were taken with. I also love the polaroid and fish eye settings. I'm totally obsessed, download this thing if you have this phone!

Second is the Cover Girl outlast lip stain. I'm wearing the wild berry wink color in this photo and I want to buy 10 of them and give them to all my best girlfriends. It's a perfect color and it goes on nicely. I had another pricier version of this I bought at Sephora forever ago (I can't remember which brand it was) but this one is far superior as far as color, applicator and actually staying on.
Alright, that's it. I'm spent. Not too many crafty things this week because I'm getting ready to head to Sasquatch this weekend. I did make something that I finally sent off to my step-brother today and I will be sharing that soon.

Good Morning Monday

I stayed up late watching the Lost finale and the Jimmy Kimmel special. I made "dharma initiative" labels for our wine bottles and chocolate bars, along with Oceanic Airline's boarding passes and brought it all over to a friend's house where we nerded out, cried and were generally happy with the finale even though it left so many questions unanswered.
Anyhow, I'm trying to get motivated to do some work this morning and I keep think about this lovely coloring book I saw at Powell's this weekend. I've seen this book around on several blogs and in stores and was always fascinated by Charley Harper's illustrations. I think this coloring book would be a perfect gift for my niece, who's nearly five, so I may need to go back and pick it up. I don't think I ever had enough patience to be good at coloring. I loved coloring books as a kid and I had friends in elementary school who I thought were extremely talented because they would use their crayons to make a hard edge of color around the image and then lightly fill it in which I just thought was genius!

Sunshiny Weekend

The weather here has been sort of bi-polar (more so than usual). Pouring rain one second and then sunshine and heat the next. I'm hoping we'll get a little more sunshine and a little less rain this weekend.
We did get to enjoy a break in the frantic weather this week when we stopped by this bar for decidedly summery cocktails. This guys always my favorite drinking companion.

Thrift Finds

Thank you thrift gods! I found ridiculously large pieces of fabric which is amazing. Usually vintage fabric that size is only obtainable at estate sales. I also got a bright yellow Pyrex mug, hat box and some scarves some of which may end up my etsy shop soon.
Needless to say I was happy with my haul from a spur of the moment thrift run yesterday.

Today the boy is working from home so we're hanging out in our second bedroom side by side on our computers listening to the new Band of Horses. I love having him home during the day. We had tea (for him) and coffee (for me) this morning and now we're heading out to lunch.

Inspiration in May

This weekend I saw these awesome "outdoor" pillows at Fred Meyer of all places. Aren't those fabrics outstanding? It makes me so happy when large chain stores have thoughtfully chosen items for sale, instead of the sea of beige and dark crimson that usually over runs the color palate at places like that.
Part of me thinks the idea of an outdoor pillow is ridiculous but another part of me wants to buy 5 of them, put a couch in my courtyard and chill in my ad hoc living room all summer!

New to the Shop!

I added some fun stuff to the shop today. We'll call it "overflow" from Crafty Wonderland. I'll be adding a couple things every day for the next few days so keep an eye out. The awesome men's ties made from vintage cotton will be making a debut very soon!

Dot Pillow

One thing I find myself sewing over and over again is new covers for throw pillows.
It's a perfect way to change up a room slightly, use that cute cotton fabric you bought half a yard of on impulse at the fabric store or practice your sewing skills if you're a beginner.

I saw the new Martha Stewart Living at the grocery store yesterday and the bright throw pillows on the cover were such an inspiration. I came home and discovered this dotted fabric in my stash that I wanted to use up and voila, new pillow for our living room.

Happy Monday!

I had such a wonderful weekend. Amazing thrifting adventures on Saturday and a trip to Fabric Depot with out-of-town visitors on Sunday. The weather was just beautiful, I'm getting so excited for summer.

Crafty Wonderland Spring Sale

Here are a couple of photos from my sale last weekend. It was pretty much the same set up as the Christmas sale but I had some new stuff this time. My booth was next to a couple of friends booths which was really nice because parts of the sale were really slow for me. All in all I had a good time but I, personally, didn't think the two day sale worked that well. More people came on Sunday (the day they typically have Craft Wonderland) and there weren't a lot of people buying. I think with the one day sale the shoppers have a sense of urgency to buy what they want right then, and with two days, there was just too many options and time to consider each and every thing.

I'm also including this pizza that I made with my friend Julia last weekend. We used the pre-made crust from Trader Joes and pre-heated this pizza stone that I apparently have never used correctly. It turned out perfectly! Better than delivery, for real.

Sleepy

I'm so exhausted from this weekend all I can muster up is some beautiful inspiration in turquoise from around the web.
Images found here and other places on the internets.
I promise some photos from the sale later this week.
