Men's Gifts: Cameras

In this installment of holiday gifts for men, I want to share these film cameras that make great and afordable gifts.
My husband loves photography and the cameras I've bought for him in the past have been big hits. These are all in a great price range and are so fun to use throughout the year, particularly on vacations.

These double shot cameras are from my favorite online photo supply place, Photojojo. They are super affordable and you can pick the print. My favorite is the green trees!

I love this Polaroid Land Camera. I own one and it works great with the sx-70 film you can buy at the Impossible Project.

Everyone loves a Holga. I recommend buying them at Amazon as opposed to the WAY over priced Urban Outfitters. Lomography does a great job of making these starter kits which make a perfect gift.

I completely surprised the boy last year with a Diana mini and we've had so much fun using it all year long. Perfect starter size if your dude is just getting into film cameras but I think this year, we want to upgrade to the full size!

Men's Gifts: Flasks

Man oh man, it's hard to shop for dudes! First, it's difficult to find the perfect combination of something both practical and unique and second, men's stuff is criminally under represented on etsy and craft sales, where I like to do a lot of shopping for the holidays.
I'm not an expert or anything but I do have several guys in my life that I have to buy for every year and I have some great go-tos I want to share.
I'm starting with the old stand by, flasks. If the guy on your list likes to drink, chances are he probably owns a flask. However, the ones I'm featuring here, are totally unique. They would look cool just sitting on a shelf and make a great upgrade from the standard stainless steel one your dude is toting around now.

The Stanley Flask. Perfect for your man's vintage lunchbox.

The element flask. Totally classy with a handmade leather cover that has the chemical element for ethanol (pure alcohol) on it.

Vintage double flask with glass scottie dogs. Quirky and masculine at the same time. This is something that would just look great on a shelf or so awesome to use too!

This glass flask is a great twist on the traditional steel version. Maybe not practical for travel but just great to have on the bar.

Cute Coozies for your Electronics

It feels good to be making some 'crafts' again! Don't get me wrong, searching for vintage goodies and scouring Etsy for wholesalers has been a blast but I love making stuff. Last week this idea popped into my head and I became a bit obsessed. I HAD to make these, even if I didn't really have the time to.
Anyway, here are my prototypes. They fit point and shoot digital cameras and your average smart phone nicely. They'd even make a great holder for my little flip cam.
Most of the stitching is hand done on these guys so I'm planning on taking them on our trip this weekend and making some more. I expect there will be a few for sale at Splendorcraft and Crafty Wonderland!
Have a lovely Thanksgiving weekend everyone. I'll be back next week with photos from our getaway.

It's Cold Outside

We had such an amazing and truly magical Saturday. So many pretty dresses found new homes and of course, I've already started replenishing the shop's supply (see a sneak peak above!). Sunday nite my mother-in-law cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for us and we drank delicious wine and tried to relax.
Now the boy and I are getting ready to head to Ashland early Thursday morning but after the weekend we had, all I want to do is sleep!

A love letter...

This post is a love letter.
To the summer.
To weddings.
To vintage dresses.
To instant film cameras.
To FILM cameras.
To friends.
To train rides.
and to this time of year. Which always makes me nostalgic for Summer but also makes me excited for the holiday season, hot cups of tea and presents!
What would you write a love letter to right now?

Mini-Home Tour

I've been wanting to share some photos of our home for a while but it's been hard to get everything set up (you know- 'staged') and have nice lighting and then remember to take photos. SO, I'll start with a few photos of our second bedroom. This is all the 'guest room' side of the second room in our house, the other side is computers and Wanderlust inventory which isn't very exciting or pretty.

We found this bed frame at Goodwill for $25 and then bought an Ikea mattress for $90- Not a bad deal and when we don't have guests, we like to cuddle on this bed and watch movies on my computer.

This is a little collection of polaroids and photo booth photos through the years. The polaroids in the middle are my favorite- the one on the left is from 2 months before we married and the one on the right was taken the week we met.

This is a peak at some of our CD and book madness as well as our modest gocco stash (RIP). On the left is a very cool 1960s era Singer sewing machine I found on the street in Seattle.

When we decided change up how we store our CDs, I decided to turn our $50 Ikea CD shelf into the perfect fabric organizer. I can see all the colors, prints and materials at a glance which is awesome.
I'm busy all week preparing for Wanderlust's grand opening party happening Saturday! I hope any local blog readers/friends will stop by the Waterheater between 1 and 6pm for a cupcake and some nice indoor shopping!

Playing Dress Up

Skirt- Anthropologie, Shirt- Forever 21, Socks- Target, Shoes- Nordstrom, Necklace- handmade in Mexico (by the same man who made the necklace I wore on our wedding day) and Bag- Showpony.

I wore this to the Little Winter Market on Sunday. I've been so busy lately I just wear sweatpants and a tshirt until right before the boy comes home and then I change so he doesn't think I'm a slob.
There's so much to do to get ready for Wanderlust's holiday season and the various trips (here and here) that we're taking in the next month and a half. I'm so excited for everything that even though I'm stressed, I'm enjoying it!

Weekend in Photos.

I'm too exhausted to write anything clever. We mostly bought Christmas gifts, some for people who read this blog, so I can't share anything I bought, but I bought. A lot.

Paper Doll Primer

Ahh, man. How much do I want this book? I read The Black Apple blog regularly and I love the aesthetic and storytelling aspect present in all of Emily's art. I think this book would be a great inspiration and lovely addition to our 'coffee table' book collection (that are stored on a bookshelf since we don't have a coffee table). Pretty please Santa- can I have this book for Christmas?

Playing Dress Up

Dress: Anthropologie (on sale), Cardigan: H&M, Purse: vintage Wilson leather (inherited from my mom!), stretch pants: Target, Knee Highs: Momo in Seattle and Boots: Steve Madden at Nordstrom.

This is probably as close to a uniform as I get during the Fall transition from 'sunny crisp days' to 'cold rainy gray days'. I could wear it or a variation on this outfit, every day. The plaid dress is silk lined and with stretch pants, knee highs and boots I stay surprisingly warm. I wore this on our first day of treasure hunting at the antique sale this weekend. My second day outfit was much more relaxed (meaning cords and a tshirt) considering the, ahem, hangover I had from Saturday nite.

Antique Show Haul

Can you believe this is just half of it? I found so many lovely things, a lot of which will end up in the shop either as display or for sale. I'm loving the idea of mixing these vintage hangers in with our standard wooden ones and these brooches and owl necklace join an ever growing collection of adorable vintage accessories.

My feet are tired and I've looked at enough old toys and glassware to last me for a bit (although, maybe not. My love for thrift and vintage seems endless lately).
I had such a wonderful weekend with this show and Halloween. I'm feeling very lucky lately to have some great people in my life and some terrific things happening too. I'm ready, bring it on Holidays!
