Grass Lawn Weekend

You know that space in between the sidewalk and the street? Where they put a small section of grass? Do you call that a tree lawn or green way? You know, I had never even heard either of those terms until maybe five years ago.
Well, anyway I wanted to share my weekend. The Edgefield is so great, I'm glad we went early and walked around, drank beer and ate. I would love to stay the nite there sometime. Sunday was rather lazy. I used my new staple gun for our new headboard which is not up yet so no pictures.

I also grabbed a baseball mitt at goodwill and the boy and I played catch in the park on, what I imagine will be one of the last nice days of year.
Tomorrow I'm expecting a delivery from Dharma of new goodies for the holiday craft sale season. I applied to two different sales but I won't hear if I got accepted until the middle of October so I'm patiently waiting and assuming I'll atleast get to vend at one of them. Wish me luck!

Corn Chowder

I thought I'd post about this lovely corn chowder I made a couple weeks ago. I got the recipe from this blog. It was simple and tasty and we'll definitely be making it often as the weather turns and suddenly all I want every nite is hot comfort food. Anyway, more to come. The show last nite was amazing. I mean, like just beyond what I could have imagined and I've also got some home improvement stuff I'm working on.

Feather in my Hair

Well, I tried to be ambitious last nite and drag myself up to Last Thursday but it did not happen. Between trying to get the car after work and then getting everything together for it, I just dropped the ball and couldn't do it. I did make it to Home Depot and Micheal's and bought all of the materials I need to make our new headboard so hopefully I'll get that done this weekend in between seeing My Morning Jacket at the Edgefield and entertaining an out of town guest. I also made this feathered hairclip last nite with some all purpose glue and an alligator clip. So cute and perfect considering I watched Casablanca on OPB last nite. I love all the wonderful hats Ingrid Bergman wears in that film. She's so stunning.

Homemade Playdough

Here, as promised is the playdough I made this week. The texture is funny because I forgot to put the oil in before I cooked it but I'm happy with the colors and once the balls were in these little containers, I was super pleased. I added the labels and some utensils to use with the dough so all together it looks like a great gift. It will definitely be a future "go-to" gift for other friends and family with toddlers. The link to the recipe I used is in the post below this if you're interested. This weekend was great! We did indeed get to H&M and also spent time with both of our moms. The boys mom makes jewelry so we took great pictures of it so her other son can sell it on ebay for her. I'm also trying to convince her to start an etsy store and sell at some craft sales down here with me which would be cool.

Oh me, oh my! We've got a jam packed weekend ahead. First, my wonderful, amazing mom is having a birthday and we're heading up to Sea-Town to surprise her! Luckily, she does not read this blog so I don't have to worry about ruining the surprise. We're only going to be up for a moment but I'm hoping to swing by one of the two H&M's that opened up there recently and pick up some fall gear. How is it that Seattle gets two and Portland isn't even on the waitlist for one? Hello, we don't have sales tax down here! That should be reason enough.
Last nite, I had to finish up my niece's third birthday gift so I can drop it off while I'm up there. Hers is still over a week away but I hate going to the post office to ship things so this worked out nicely. I made play dough, if you must know. I think it turned out good but man does my right arm hurt from all the stirring and mixing and dying and everything. I have pictures on my camera but no time to download them right now. Hopefully tomorrow evening I can find a moment. The recipe I used is here and it was simple and straight forward. I recommend it if you're looking to have some non-toxic play dough around your house. In the comments someone recommended using hot water and I think I may try that if I make this again because I assume it would make it easier to stir. Now, to go rest my arm. I'm going to need it for all the driving.

More Birthday Pictures

I can't help it, I've got to share some more photos from my birthday. First the flowers that the boy had delivered to my work. Can you believe it? Both he and my dad had flowers sent to me this year. I felt completely blessed particularly because I've never had flowers sent to me ever in my life. I know it sounds cheesy but I just thought it was so cool.

On the night of my birthday we went to Farm, one of my all time favorite restaurants and although I have to apologize for the poor quality picture, this is the best meal ever. Tofu cutlets with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. I've been so busy that crafting has had to take a back seat but, as mentioned previously, I'm getting geared up for sewing time. In the meantime, can I just say again how super great my birthday was? It was super great.

Birthday Gifts

Wow, wow, wow. I can't believe it's September already. I am itching to stay at home and sew all day so I know Fall must be just around the corner. This clutch was made for a friend's birthday a few weeks ago. I had some Japanese fabric that I'd ordered off Etsy ages ago and bright red corduroy that I actually picked up at the Bins. They look so good together and I knew this particular friend would love them both so I came up with this little purse. I added a gold sewing machine charm as a zipper pull and I'm really pleased with how it came out. The top of the purse kind of bunches where the zipper is, a problem I often have when I make bags or purses with flaps. A pattern could easily solve this no doubt, but sometimes I just hate using patterns, you know?

Last weekend the boy and I headed to the Oregon coast for my birthday/our anniversary. We stayed about a half hour North of Florence in Yachats. Our motel was right on the water and we had a balcony with the most amazing view. We drank beer and looked at the ocean, took early morning and late evening walks on the beach and made delicious veggie BLTs. We also stopped at this viewpoint called Strawberry Hill where you can walk down to the water. When the tide is out harbor seals come and sun on the rocks. I couldn't believe how close we were to them! We also saw sea anemones and sea stars. It was maybe the best vacation I've ever taken. I am so thankful to have someone in my life that cares about me so much and planned something so perfect.
This weekend, I am laying low, maybe recovering some throw pillows and tending to Bianca who still seems to be upset at us for leaving her last weekend.
